As part of our 35 Year Birthday this year we are highlighting a few special people that help make Link Housing a thriving Tier 1 community housing provider that delivers with care. Introducing one of Link Housing’s long serving staff members – Liz.
With a professional background in Private Sector Real Estate, Liz leads a team of Housing Managers that, between them, manage close to 4000 properties.
Liz has seen a great deal of change during her 15-years in community housing since commencing with Ryde Hunters Hill Community Housing (RHHCH) in 2005, who were then managing 147 properties. In 2011, RHHCH merged with Link Housing. At the time, Liz was a Project Officer and has since held roles as Asset Manager and Housing Manager, through to her promotion to Team Leader in 2018.
Liz’s longevity and diverse experience in community housing has given her a unique perspective. She strongly believes that the delivery of community housing services, combined with associated wrap around services, can keep families together and lead to positive change for residents.
‘Being part of positive changes in tenants’ lives’ gives Liz a great sense of personal purpose. “With the benefit of time I’ve been fortunate enough to support tenants and their family’s transition through Community Housing and move onto their next step in life,” she says.
As a Team Leader based in Link Housing’s West Ryde office, Liz manages her team of Housing Managers with a focus on mentorship and a coaching style. She encourages her team to participate in tenant and offsite activities like our Annual Art Exhibition or ‘Home Sweet 2019’ to really be part of the workplace and mission, ‘to work together to provide safe and affordable housing that strengthens lives and communities’. Other events the team get involved in include the Granny Smith Festival, Morning teas and Block meetings, which she says are “hugely rewarding and enjoyable days”.
This focus drives a great culture in her team and has been key to Link Housing’s growth over its 35 years. The most recent growth was last year when Link Housing doubled in size and gained approximately 1800 properties as part of the Social Housing Management Transfer (SHMT). The growth saw the organisation open a second Link Housing office in West Ryde.
Another area that Liz is excited about is the change in community housing sector to include more specialised staff who are better able to meet the specific needs of residents. It is a move that Liz believes will go a long way in helping residents to sustain their tenancies.
Liz’s extensive organisational knowledge is incredibly valuable and allows Liz to contribute to Link Housing’s continued growth and culture – as well as care for tenants and staff. Recognised with an ‘Award for Excellence – Team & Leadership Award’ last year, Liz explains what drives her:
“I do it for the fulfillment and the great sense of purpose. I’m happy to get out of bed and come to work in the morning.”
