Ending Homelessness

Home / Partnerships & growth / Ending Homelessness

In addition to providing community housing, Link Housing takes part in initiatives that help to end homelessness in our community. Read about some of these initiatives below.

Together Home

We are proud to partner with the NSW Government on solutions to help end homelessness and assist those in need of housing.

The NSW Government’s $36 million Together Home program launched in July 2020 in response to COVID-19. The Program seeks to deliver safe, secure, long-term housing and support to hundreds experiencing homelessness, via partnerships with 19 selected community housing providers, including Link Housing. It has been described as the largest response to homelessness in NSW’s history.

As part of the Program, Link Housing received funding to house and support 23 formerly homeless individuals to rebuild their lives. Through a dedicated team of specialists and a new model of service, we were able to fill all 23 places within months of the Program launch.

We are grateful to the NSW Government for the funding and our partners who are essential to the delivery of the Program. We currently work with Mission Australia, Catholic Care and Dignity, as well as others for support services needed to help our clients.

Our clients

Our clients are now feeling more confident about the future because of the Together Home program delivered by the Link Housing team.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with the NSW Government in developing solutions to end homelessness beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.

Home Sweet

Home Sweet is Link Housing’s annual fundraiser to help end homelessness. Launched in 2017, the fundraiser is a charity sleepover that attracts the support of corporates, government, NFPs and individual community members.

In 2019, the event had nearly 100 participants and raised over $181,000. All the money raised is given to the beneficiaries. In the past, our beneficiaries have included The Burdekin Association, Women’s Community Shelters and Link Housing’s Scholarship Program.

The next Home Sweet event will be at Freshwater Surf Life Saving Club in 2021 with Aqualand as the platinum sponsor.

Everybody’s Home

Link Housing is a proud sponsor of the Everybody’s Home campaign. Everybody’s Home is the Council to Homeless Persons’ (CHP) plan to end homelessness.

As a community housing provider, we believe everyone should have access to a safe and affordable home. The demand for affordable housing is high, but there is not enough supply. Because of this, homelessness in Australia is at record levels.

Everybody’s Home is a call on the Government to take simple steps that will help fix this:
• Support for first home-buyers by resetting our tax system.
• A National Housing Strategy that provides 500,000 new low-cost rental homes.
• A better deal for renters by getting rid of unfair rent rises and ‘no grounds’ evictions.
• Immediate relief for those in chronic rental stress by increasing Commonwealth Rent Assistance and more.
• A national action plan to end homelessness by 2030.
