The celebration took place at one of the transferred properties and brought together a number of residents to hear from speakers including CEO of Link Housing, Andrew McAnulty and Director of Community & Library Services at North Sydney Council, Martin Ellis.
The North Sydney community and our Council relationship is very special to Link Housing. Our long-standing partnership with North Sydney Council began in 1984 to help to provide access to community housing for those in need of it.
With a shared vision to address affordable housing shortages in the local area where waiting periods for social housing can exceed 10 years – the two organisations have worked hard to ensure there are sustainable options and outcomes for community members who find themselves in housing stress.
Working closely with North Sydney Council, Link Housing has, and continues to help the most vulnerable and at-risk groups in the community. Besides, managing Council’s social housing properties, the organisation has also worked on a redevelopment project, a boarding house in North Sydney, using funding from NSW Government. The Nicholson Street development provides seven local residents (all over 62-years with a disability) experiencing housing stress with long-term and safe housing.
Today Link Housing manages around 4000 homes within Metropolitan Sydney, with the majority in its historic base of Northern Sydney. The transfer on 11 March 2019, brought the number of homes managed on the Lower North Shore to 400.
It was a privilege to celebrate this one year milestone with the residents who transferred from Department of Communities and Justice (previously FACS) last year. Link Housing has been enriched by their involvement with our community, our programs and events.
We’re also pleased that Link Housing has been able to complete much needed repairs and upgrades to a number of the transferred properties, ensuring the safety and comfort of residents. Residents at the event appreciated hearing about works completed, as well as our future improvement plans and sharing their feedback. Thanks to all who attended.
